Jones eyes stylish derby win, but van Gaal is happy to win ugly

Phil Jones wants Manchester United to continue the run of eye-catching performances when Manchester City head across town for Sunday's derby.

The Blues were beaten 2-1 at Crystal Palace on Easter Monday, leaving them in fourth place in the table behind Chelsea, Arsenal and United. As any hopes of retaining the title appear to be fading fast, Manuel Pellegrini's men are under pressure ahead of the Old Trafford blockbuster.

Louis van Gaal insisted at the weekend that he sees the scoreline as being more important than the performance in such a key fixture, stating: "You can see the fantastic matches in these type of games, however the result is always the most important thing so maybe I hope we play ugly next week - but win."

Jones still has huge respect for City but, after going down narrowly at the Etihad Stadium despite Chris Smalling's first-half sending off, there is expectation that the Reds can come out on top this time around and turn on the style at the same time.

"Victory doesn't last long enough," he told MUTV after the 3-1 success against Aston Villa. "We've got to move on the next game. It's nice to go into the derby, such a big game, playing well and in form. We need to turn up and make sure we put on another great performance next Sunday.

"City are still a good team. We know what they're capable of and the threat they have going forward. They've got some great players in their squad but so have we. We've seen in the last few weeks and all season really, what sort of team we can be when we turn up and play our football. Hopefully, we can do that on Sunday as well."
