Under-21s out to boost title hopes

Manchester United will look to sustain a bid for the Barclays Under-21 Premier League title when returning to action against struggling West Ham on Tuesday.

There is free entry for all at Leigh Sports Village as Warren Joyce's men strive to stave off competition for leadership of the division with another victory.

The live MUTV encounter is the first outing since a 2-1 triumph at Everton last month which featured goals for James Wilson and Paddy McNair. Joyce was pleased with that result, telling Inside United: "Different types of lessons were learnt against Everton in terms of all-round education because it was a hard, bumpy pitch, which I'm not sure came across properly on TV, and another test we had to overcome."

Wilson was unavailable for international duty after going off injured against the Toffees but Joe Rothwell recovered from the knock that saw him replaced at Southport to score a couple of goals in the Nike Academy Cup at St George's Park. Adnan Januzaj and Andreas Pereira, both on the bench for the first team's win over Aston Villa, also appeared in the tournament while Liam Grimshaw and Ashley Fletcher were among the scorers.

Southampton failed to usurp the Reds after losing to Sunderland on Easter Monday but Liverpool are only a point behind United and entertain Fulham on Tuesday afternoon. The Hammers are eight points adrift at the bottom and are in grave danger of facing relegation to the second tier but gave a good account of themselves when losing 2-1 in the corresponding fixture in October, when Will Keane hit a 78th-minute winner.
