Ander Herrera was the unsurprising winner of Manchester United’s Man of the Match award after his two goals helped secure an important 3-1 win over Aston Villa in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday.
The Spaniard put the Reds ahead just before the break at Old Trafford with a neat control and strike, before sealing the three points in injury-time with a calm, sidefooted finish.
The 25-year-old picked up a landslide 85 per cent of the votes from our Twitter followers, with his compatriot Juan Mata (9 per cent) and Antonio Valencia (6 per cent) also nominated by MUTV pundit and ex-Reds defender David May.
Afterwards, Phil Jones praised Herrera, telling MUTV: "The last few months he's been on fire. I remember playing him when he was at Athletic Bilbao – he gave me the runaround!"
In between his sixth and seventh goals of the season, Herrera was one of the Reds’ most potent performers, buzzing around the field with his usual energy.
United manager Louis van Gaal said at his post-match press conference: "I knew already that he has a very good technical kick but is sometimes not composed at the right moment.
"He develops himself more now that he is composed, now that he knows the positions and now that he can run from the 16-metre line to the other 16-metre line [box to box], and I like that.
"To score seven goals when you don’t play all the games is a fantastic season, I think."
