Angel Di Maria reaches double figures for assists

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says Angel Di Maria will soon be given a chance in the starting line-up again after the winger registered his 10th assist of the season in Saturday's 3-1 win over Aston Villa.

Di Maria came off the bench at Old Trafford to set up Wayne Rooney's stunning strike on 79 minutes, as he did for Juan Mata's memorable volley against Liverpool last month.

As ManUtd.com reported earlier this week, the Argentinian is not far off David Beckham's club-record 15 assists in a Barclays Premier League season, and van Gaal described the £59.7million signing's contribution as "fantastic".

"I have said that already – expensive is not the issue," the manager said. "Do I have to make a line-up with the most expensive players? I don’t think so.

"That is not an argument, in my opinion, but an argument is that he gave his 10th assist and he did not play all the games like Herrera, so it is fantastic.

"Di Maria, his turn is coming but I have to wait for the right moment."
