Louis van Gaal says Robin van Persie is still a little way off a return to action, but the Manchester United boss feels the striker is making progress in his recovery from an ankle problem.
The Dutch forward sustained the injury in the 2-1 defeat at Swansea City last month and has been unavailable since the visit to Wales.
Van Gaal says his fellow countryman is continuing to work with the club's medical team and confirmed he is not likely to make a return until after the international break at the end of March, meaning he will sit out the trip to Liverpool as well as Sunday's clash with Tottenham.
"He is still with the medical department and needs to take the step to the technical department," the manager explained to reporters.
"He is always training but the medical department is also sports science so he is training inside, not outside on the pitch. Even when he is on the pitch, he is with the medical department.
"He will then take the step to the technical department and then we have a process when he comes into our selection and trains."
