Goals were at a premium in the weekend's three other FA Cup quarter-finals, with just two in three matches, all scored by Aston Villa, as scoreless games between Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers, and Bradford City and Reading went to replays.
Villa defeated Midlands rivals West Brom 2-0 at home, with Fabian Delph and Scott Sinclair getting the strikes, prompting a rowdy pitch invasion by the home fans.
Tim Sherwood's second outwitting of Tony Pulis in a week – his side beat the Baggies on Tuesday in the Premier League – secured Villa's first trip to Wembley for five years.
"It's been a good week," said Sherwood. "The players want to dedicate it to the fans. They think the fans have had some hard times, and everyone at the club realises we're going to need them. If we win the FA Cup but get relegated, it will be a failure."
Blackburn Rovers forced an Ewood Park replay with Liverpool after it finished 0-0 at Anfield. Craig Conway came close for the visitors, while Kolo Toure had a goal disallowed for offside. "We bring them back and we hope we will have a full crowd," said Rovers boss Gary Bowyer. "The pitch at Ewood is nowhere near the standard here so it might be a bit of a leveller."
Bradford City and Reading also played out a 0-0 draw at Valley Parade, and will meet again at the Madejski Stadium to decide who goes through. Both sides hit the woodwork, but it was an otherwise uneventful clash.
"It was a cagey old affair, but we're still in the hat, so we're pleased," said Bradford boss Phil Parkinson.
