Falcao and Young start vs Sunderland

Radamel Falcao returns to Manchester United's starting line-up as one of five changes for today's Barclays Premier League encounter with Sunderland at Old Trafford (kick-off 15:00 GMT).

The Colombian was an unused substitute in last weekend's 2-1 defeat to Swansea City but has been named in Louis van Gaal's starting line-up for the clash with the Black Cats, alongside captain Wayne Rooney. The Reds are without leading scorer Robin van Persie through injury.

Ashley Young starts his first game since New Year's Day, while Jonny Evans takes his place in the heart of the defence, and Michael Carrick is on the substitutes' bench, having been sidelined since 23 January.

United: De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Evans, Rojo, Blind, Herrera, Young, Di Maria, Rooney, Falcao. Subs: Lindegaard, McNair, Carrick, Fellaini, Mata, Januzaj, Wilson.

Sunderland: Pantilimon, Reveillere, van Aanholt, Brown, O’Shea, Cattermole, Larsson, Gomez, Johnson, Wickham, Defoe. Subs: Mannone, Bridcutt, Fletcher, Graham, Coates, Vergini, Watmore.
