Swans aim to shut out United

Swansea manager Garry Monk has warned his squad that they will be facing a different Manchester United side to the one they shocked at Old Trafford on the opening day of the season.

"That feels like a long time ago," admitted Monk this week. "But it was a fantastic day and the pleasing thing for me is that we won the game on merit. We put in a great performance and it was a superb start to the season for us.

"But they have changed a lot since then. They have climbed the table and are in a good position. They have world-class players and I'm sure they are going to go from strength to strength as the season progresses. They can mix it up and change their style of play accordingly. It is a massive challenge for us but we'll relish it."

The Swans may have won two of their last three encounters against United – both 2-1 victories at Old Trafford in 2014, once in the FA Cup and once in the Premier League – but their record on home turf in this fixture is not as impressive.

United won the corresponding match at the Liberty Stadium in August 2013 with a convincing 4-1 display; the two sides drew 1-1 in December 2012; and in 2011 a lone Javier Hernandez strike was enough to beat the newly-promoted Swans in Wales.

Current form also favours United. Swansea, who briefly topped the table after an unbeaten August, now lie ninth. They have only won three of their last ten games, were trounced 5-0.
